FC Boulder Claims 2 State Cup Championships!
Sunday was an exciting day for the FC Boulder Boys’ Program as the ’01 Boys Elite and ‘98/’99 Boys Elite Black teams both claimed State Cup Championships in their respective age groups.
’01 Boys Elite 5 – Real Colorado National ’01 0
The ’01 Boys Elite started the day off against Real Colorado National. It was obvious the boys came to play as they ran out to a 2-0 lead in the first half through goals by Christian Nunez and Omar Castruita. With the score 2-0 at half time, the boys didn’t let up and continued to attack, with Omar scoring 2 more goals and Christian getting his 2nd to round out a convincing 5-0 win! The boys will now go on to represent Colorado at Far West Regionals in Seattle this Summer from June 19-25.
The team is coached by Kyle Lineberger and assisted by Colm O’Neill and the roster is as follows: Noah Williams, Carter Melton, Jake Ketchner, Blake Barber, Myles Ellis, Will Griffith, Micah Blackburn, Mark O’Neill, Christian Nunez, Simon Gerlach, Omar Castruita, Harry Yoxall, Danny Zapatero, and Fabian Valencia.
‘98/’99 Boys Elite Black 2 – Pride Predators ’98 1
The ‘98/’99 Boys Elite Black took on Pride Predators in the later game and took a 1-0 lead mid-way through the 1st half through a well worked goal from Abe Lopez. As the half went on, Pride started to get a foot hold in the game and eventually claimed an equalizer to make the score at half-time 1-1. The 2nd half was a tightly contested half with a fierce wind blowing for both teams to deal with and although both sides had opportunities, neither was able to find the winning goal and the game went to extra time. FC Boulder were the side that looked most likely to score in the extra time and thought they’d gotten the winner on another fantastic finish from Lopez but it was called back for offside and then with only minute to go Simon Julien thundered a 30 yard shot off the Pride crossbar as the game finished and had to be decided on penalty kicks. FCB shot first with Lopez scoring, then Pride scored their first. Simon Julien then scored for FCB and Pride scored their 2nd. Up stepped captain Quinn Frankowsky for FCB who unfortunately shot wide and Pride scored to take the 3-2 advantage. Daulton Logan then converted for FCB to make the score 3-3 and goalkeeper Logan Wette saved Pride’s 4th to keep the game tied. FCB’s final shooter was Cam Peterson who scored to make it 4-3 with Pride’s last shooter up next. Again, Wette came up big and stopped the shot to give FCB the win and the championship!
The boys are coached by Kyle Lineberger and assisted by Jack Huettel and the roster is as follows: Logan Wette, Stephen Griffith, Cam Peterson, M Steiner, Marco Rodriguez, Daulton Logan, Sean McElveen, Simon Julien, Luke Oberto, Riley Shea, Ryan Houseman, Quinn Frankovsky, Miguel Toledo, Abe Lopez, Trey Pace, Armando Ocampo, Brian Oates, and Blaise Werner. They’ll also now go on to represent Colorado at Far West Regionals in Seattle this Summer from June 19-25.
Congratulations to all the players for representing the club so well and bringing home the titles. Best of luck in Regionals!
