As the Technical Director of FC Boulder, John will work to support the development of players and coaches throughout the entire competitive program.  In addition to coaching individual teams, the Technical Director will coordinate various aspects of the competitive program that span across age groups, and provide high level, model training sessions throughout the competitive program. John also works with the Executive Director to assure that the club fulfills its vision, values and mission.

Following a professional soccer career that included playing for the Chicago Sting and Dallas Americans, John was hired as the first professional club coach in Boulder County in 1989. John has helped pioneer competitive club soccer in Boulder County and throughout Colorado and continues to be a leader in Colorado youth soccer.

John has coached more players who have succeeded at the high school varsity level than any other coach in the North Metro/Boulder County area. Over 200 of John’s former players have gone on to play collegiate soccer including NSCAA All-Americans, NCAA National Champions, and All-Conference players. John has coached players that have gone on to play professional soccer as well as players who have gone on to coach at the professional, collegiate and high school levels.

John has served as the head coach of Boulder High School in the 1990s, as an assistant coach for the University of Colorado Women’s team and as a Colorado Olympic Development Program staff coach. As the first USSF “A” licensed coach in the Boulder area, John has conducted coaching certification courses for many Colorado youth coaches. He currently organizes the annual Colorado Soccer Coaching Symposium, which brings some of the top coaches in the United States to Boulder each winter.

Prior to his professional playing career, John was a successful collegiate student-athlete at North Texas University where he earned All-American honors. John played his youth soccer in his native Holland. John has returned to Holland with several different youth teams. In 2005, John was a guest of one of the top Dutch professional clubs AZ, where he spent time studying and observing their youth player development system.
